Golden Glow

Golden Glow — Makeup Workshops for Confidence, Independence, and Safety

Golden Glow is a low cost workshop program that teaches women the practical makeup skills that can change how they move through the world — whether that means stepping out with renewed confidence or knowing how to safely conceal bruises before facing a difficult day.

We serve two audiences who share one need: to feel in control of how the world sees them.

Two Workshops, One Mission

Golden Glow runs two distinct workshop tracks:

Workshop 1 — Makeup Confidence for Older Women

Many women find that as they age, the makeup techniques they’ve used for years stop working the way they used to. Skin changes. Products change. And for women who may have stepped back from beauty routines during caregiving years or after major life transitions, starting again can feel overwhelming.

This is a hands-on makeup workshop designed specifically for older women — taught at your pace, focused on your face, and built around what makes you feel like yourself. No pressure, no judgment, just practical skills and a room full of women lifting each other up.

Participants learn how to work with mature skin, choose the right products, and develop a simple, confident everyday routine that they can maintain at home.

Workshop 2 —  Makeup Safety for Survivors of Domestic Violence

For women living with or escaping abusive situations, knowing how to effectively conceal bruising isn’t vanity — it’s survival. It can mean keeping a job, staying safe from scrutiny, maintaining custody, or simply getting through a day without questions you aren’t ready to answer.

This is a private, trauma-informed workshop that teaches survivors practical concealment techniques using professional-grade products. Taught with compassion and without judgment, this workshop gives participants a skill set that is entirely their own — one that no one can take away.

All workshops are conducted in a confidential setting. Referrals from shelters, caseworkers, and advocates are welcome and encouraged

What to Expect

Both workshops are:

  • Hands-on — you practice on yourself with guidance from a trained instructor
  • Small group or one-on-one — depending on availability and participant preference
  • Judgment-free — every woman’s situation is respected and never questioned
  • Taught by trained instructors — Golden Glow workshops are led by beauty professionals and advanced students from Alternatives Beauty School

Workshops are held at our Wilmington location and, when possible, at partner shelter and community sites.

Who Can Attend

Our first workshop is open to any woman who would like to build or rebuild her makeup confidence — especially women 50 and older, women returning to the workforce, and women navigating major life transitions.

Our second workshop is open to women who are currently in, recently out of, or supporting someone in a domestic violence situation. No documentation is required. Self-referral is always welcome.
